The Treaty of Riga partitioned the disputed territories of the former Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth between Poland and Russia and thus ended the war. Although the articles of the treaty were seen by many, Józef Piłsudski included, as not going far enough to secure the Polish and Ukrainian interests and as controversial at best, the peace agreement put a stop to the military conflict and reshaped the European geopolitical map.
