Conservation works to the memorial of the Polish Promethean Movement's
The project was funded by the Polish Ministry of Culture with the help of the University of Warsaw's Centre for East European Studies. Olga Marzantowicz, stone and sculpture conservator from Edinburgh, had already managed to clean the memorial of years' worth of dirt and carbon deposits, as well as biological growth. Thanks to her efforts the white marble of the main body of the memorial and the plaque bearing the names of the two Polish heroes, decorated with a beautiful depiction of Our Lady of Kozielsk, look as beautiful as when they were first erected.
Although the rainy weather made it impossible to finish the project before Poland's Independence Day, the results of the conservation treatment so far are astonishing.
On Saturday 11th November a group of Polish students guided by Mr Krzysztof de Berg of the Sikorski Institute in London, as well as Father Dariusz Kwiatkowski of the Our Lady Mother of the Church, in Ealing Broadway had an opportunity to speak to Olga about her work on the memorial.
