We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our longest reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II on the 8th September 2022.

On the 27th March 1996, during a visit to Poland, Queen Elizabeth II was shown around Wawel Castle by Cardinal Franciszek Macharski, including a tour of the underground crypts including the Silver Bells Crypt where she paid tribute to Jozef Pilsudski.

The Queen then strolled around the market square, despite the falling snow, where she was greeted by crowds of well-wishers including florists from the flower markets, scouts and students. She went on the tour St Mary’s Basilica and the Sukiennice.
She spent almost two hours at the Collegium Maius where she had breakfast with the President of Krakow in the Professors’ Dining Room.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Royal Family for their loss and our thoughts are with people of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth as they mourn the passing of their devoted and beloved queen.
