Odznaka 1 Brygady Legionów została ustanowiona „Za wierną służbę” 6 sierpnia 1916 roku z rozkazu Komendanta Józefa Piłsudskiego w dniu 2 rocznicy wymarszu Pierwszej Kompanii Kadrowej, która dała początek Legionom Polskim.
Autorem odznaki był Wojciech Jastrzębowski, artysta, malarz profesor Akademii Sztuk Pięknych w Warszawie także legionista 1 Pułku Piechoty.

Commander Józef Piłsudski ordered the creation of the 1st Brigade of the Legions' emblem on August 6, 1916, the second anniversary of the First Cadre Company's departure, which led to the formation of the Polish Legions.
Wojciech Jastrzębowski, a legionnaire in the 1st Infantry Regiment and a painter, artist, and professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, created the badge.
